The Golden Shovel

(1) Oyaki-san is hustling as he shovels snow for the first time in a while.

(2) He gets a little too excited… “Ahh!” The glove on his right hand slips off and goes flying away along with the snow shovel!

(3) The shovel goes over the guardrail and falls with a plop into the river flowing one level lower. “Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?” “The shovel…”

(4) “I had only just bought it…” “And my gloves…” Oyaki-san leans against the guardrail and sheds bitter tears. One of the gloves float happily along the river.

(5) Suddenly, a kappa appears from the middle of the river! Oyaki-san is astonished.

(6) The kappa pops out of the water and asks Oyaki-san.
“A golden shovel or a silver shovel, which do you want?”

(7) Oyaki-san, still holding onto the guardrail,
“Eh? Ah, well… something light and sturdy…”
“Polycarbonate please!”

(8) The kappa kindly comes out of the river and hands Oyaki-san back the polycarbonate shovel.
Kappa: “Here you go.”
Oyaki: “Yay!! Thank you!!”

The crow who had been watching the whole thing applaud.
Happily ever after

Description: After shoveling the snow, Oyaki-san has made a snowman. He looks proud as he holds his colorful shovel. A crow flies above it with a hanger hanging from it. The snowman Oyaki-san has made has an upside-down plate on its head. It even has a beak, making it look a bit like a kappa! A blue night sky spreads out beneath Oyaki-san’s feet, and a large star shines above the shadow of the mountain range.
